Cycling East Statistics

Here are the results from the group poll of the Cycling East / Silk Road WhatsApp group, conducted in October/November 2025.
A total of 85 members participated. This is about 11% of all members and about 40% of all active members (those that wrote a message between 15th June and 15th November).

This survey was designed, prepared, conducted and evaluated under the aegis of Cycling East group admin Felix Puff (@radelix_and_rebikkey on Instagram)!
It is not the work of Belinda and Tizian from Zweiradler-Touren, we merely provided the webspace to publish the results.

Most participants are in their twenties or thirties. With a clear peak around 30. We have 2 older participants aged above 50 and two participants that are younger than 20 (18 and 19).

Cycling East is predominantly male, with about 2/3 guys, and 1/3 girls and 3 non-binary people.

Participants are almost exclusively part of the Western world, predominantly being European, with Germans making up 1/3 of all Europeans (21 Germans). Outside Europe we have only 14 participants, 5 from the US, 3 from Canada, 2 Aussies, 1 Turkish, 1 Argentinean, 1 from Singapore and 1 from Singapore.

Most participants are currently on the road. 9 have finished their trip and 1 participant is still planning (this one was excluded from all other analysis). 1 participant currently recovers from an injury they had on the road.

Most people travel alone or in groups of two. Larger permanent travel groups are rare.

Participants predominantly travel as solo males or in couples. Only 5 participants are female and travel alone.

A large part of groups started their journey as a group and remained together throughout.

Instagram is the most popular social media platform used, followed by Polarsteps and WhatsApp Stories (WhatsApp messages don't count).
