The most beautiful and spectacular roads are almost always found in mountains and so the three big mountain ranges Alps, Caucasus and Pamir were always quite firmly planned for our tour. One of them is higher than the previous one and now we have reached number two: the Caucasus. It took us three days to climb the Zagaro Pass from Kutaisi up to an altitude of over 2600 meters. We then spent two days in Ushguli, marveling not only at its unique medieval fortified towers, but also at the Shkhara glacier. Finally, in the Svanetian provincial capital of Mestia, we took a hiking day to explore the Caucasus from the mountain tops as well. In the meantime, we are sitting again in sweltering heat between Poti and Batumi on the Black Sea and dreaming of our days in the cool mountains.
