After spending (what feels like) half an eternity in Istanbul, we’re finally moving on, and Bursa, the next former Ottoman capital, is waiting for us. Nevertheless, there is a lot of variety: Around Lake İznik, different fruits grow at the roadside and are waiting to be picked by hungry cyclists. After leaving Bursa, we get to fully enjoy the Turkish hospitality: Five days in a row we are invited to lunch or dinner in one way or another (sometimes again by Warmshowers hosts) and we sleep more often in guest beds than in the tent. If we still find time for cycling in between, the extremely strong wind from the northeast usually blows us in the back. Only Tizian’s raincoat, forgotten in Bandırma, briefly dampens the mood, but after numerous bus rides he finally holds it in his hands again.
