We spent nine days in Istanbul, far longer than in any other city on this tour. Istanbul is simply gigantic: In size, historical and cultural significance, only very few cities in this world can hold a candle to Istanbul. After we reported in detail in the last episode about the inestimably significant change of power in the city in 1453, we devote ourselves to the city in this episode with a tourist focus. Of course, there’s no getting around historic buildings, but we’re also talking about the city’s mass transit system and – of course, we didn’t leave that out – Turkish food! We also continue the small history series on the Ottoman Empire and (finally!) conclude the FAQ trilogy on vaccinations.
