To be honest, Bulgaria is mainly a ‘ridethrough country’ for us (similar to the flyover country in the USA). Nevertheless, the country has something up its sleeve for us: We bathe in the water of hot springs, the second largest city Plovdiv offers architecture from all possible eras and we feast not least on the somewhat missed baking counters of German retailers, which do not exist in the Western Balkans. In addition, we again have a very detailed background block, for which, as we did in Episode 9, we welcome David as our guest. This time, it’s an all-around look at the Orthodox Church: How it came to be, how it’s organized and how its rites differ from those of the Catholic Church. And we will clarify why the Bulgarian Orthodox Church is one up on the Macedonian Orthodox Church.
