Rise and Fall of the Khmer Rouge
Four Days in Rural Northern Cambodia
Published on 28.03.2025, 19:29 in Ta Pek, Thailand
This report’s podcast is only available in german: Vier Tage im entlegenen äußersten Norden Kambodschas.
It’s just a short detour that we’re taking to Cambodia. We had already visited Angkor Wat and Phnom Penh in 2018, so this time we are exploring the far north of the country. Immediately after entering the country from Laos, we cross the Mekong again in a small, narrow boat, which saves us a 110 km detour over the nearest Mekong bridge. Once on the other bank, a 65 km long gravel road awaits us, leading us straight through a completely remote and almost uninhabited forest and savannah area. Finally, we reach Anlong Veng, the place where the last Khmer Rouge lived and ruled in seclusion until well into the 1990s, and visit Pol Pot’s hideout in the mountains right on the border with Thailand. And the old Khmer are not neglected in this episode either, even if we first have to travel across the border to Thailand for their testimonies.
We always appreciate your critisism, praise and other suggestions or hints and invite you to send us them via hi@zweiradlertouren.de!
We are going to get on our bicycles once again and further collect kilometers :-)
See you again soon!
