New Year’s Eve in Hanoi and Then off to the Sea
Published on 08.01.2025, 19:24 in Quan Lan, Vietnam
This report’s podcast is only available in german: Silvester in Hanoi und dann ab ans Meer.
For New Year’s Eve, we treated ourselves to a few days off from cycling and made a side trip to Hanoi to make use of the restaurant infrastructure of a capital city and meet a number of other cyclists. Unfortunately, the fireworks there were a bit of a flop for us, as was our plan to apply for a visa for Laos. So we turned our attention to our next goal: namely, to reach a sea again after almost 1.5 landlocked years! We took the ferry to the island of Quan Lan. The beaches there are “bittersweet”: the amount of rubbish washed up on the island makes for depressing thoughts, but otherwise they are dream beaches and we have them completely to ourselves. Camping here is no problem and at least the water itself is clean enough to go for a swim (as much as the weather allows).
