Mongolia: The Last Groundhog Day

This report’s podcast is only available in german: Mongolei: Der letzte Gruß des Murmeltiers.
Two thousand kilometers of Mongolia lie behind us as we roll into the capital Ulaanbaatar. The route took us on asphalt roads across the Altai Mountains and through the Gobi (pleasantly fast thanks to the tailwind) until we decided to head further north into greener and cooler climes, which meant leaving the asphalt. As soon as we got off the tarmac, 3 days of the worst sandy washboard tracks awaited us, exactly what we were most afraid of. However, as we reached the valley of the Shar-Us, the paths became earthier and firmer, the landscape greener, the views breathtaking and we easily found some of the most beautiful campsites of the tour. And a little further east, in the Orkhon Valley, we even find so many trees that you could almost call it a forest. A highlight of Mongolia: the animals! In addition to horses, camels and yaks, we see cormorants, spoonbills, eagles, vultures, wild ducks and geese and, surprisingly, even seagulls, ground squirrels, mice and hares. And the marmots greeted us again regularly – probably for the last time on this tour.
We always appreciate your critisism, praise and other suggestions or hints and invite you to send us them via hi@zweiradlertouren.de!
We are going to get on our bicycles once again and further collect kilometers :-)
See you again soon!
