After our temporary separation in West Java, which we reported on in the last episode, we finally continue eastward together from Yogyakarta. Through villages and rice fields and finally back to the south coast of Java, where it is particularly beautiful, but at the same time our frustration tolerance is put to the test. At this point, let’s just say this much: steep roads, bad roads, no roads. After 19 days on Java, we finally cross over to the next island: Bali. We follow the north coast for a while before turning inland and climbing the caldera of the Batur volcano. The descent is a particular joy, not only because we can make good progress, but also because of the impressive presence of Hinduism here on this island.
