Jungle, Savannah and Mud in the Southern Tip of Laos
Published on 21.03.2025, 13:11 in Don Khone, Laos
This report’s podcast is only available in german: Süd-Laos: Durch Urwald, Savanne und Matsch zum Mekong.
After three months in Vietnam, it’s finally time for a change of scenery: For a bit more than a week, we’re cycling through the southernmost tip of Laos. And Laos is surprisingly different from Vietnam: drier, redder, noticeably less developed, and generally more sparsely populated. We welcome the Refreshing change, but Laos also presents us with a few challenges: the pervasive heat of 35 °C in the shade. A long stretch through remote jungle just after the border. And, above all, a dirt road that, thanks to an apocalyptic thunderstorm, drives us to despair. Dirty and exhausted, we drag ourselves to the Mekong and the idyllic spot where it is split by 4000 islands.
